According to a recent news article from Fox News, a nun was just arrested for drunk driving, and the arrest was recorded on video, including when she took the field sobriety test wearing a religious habit.

They said she was pulling into the parking lot of an auto parts store in reverse and crashed into the store’s front door. In the neighboring state of Rhode Island, a new law went into effect, which allows a judge to sentence any repeat offenders or drunk driving offenders with a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of more than two times the legal limit to having to get a vehicle breath interlock device installed in his or her car.   This means that if the driver wants to start his or her car, he must blow into the device and show a clear reading. The device can also require the driver to blow into it whenever stopped or at certain random intervals to prove sobriety.

According to a recent news report from ABC Boston, one man died in seven-car accident, which occurred early one Sunday morning in Stoughton. Massachusetts State Police troopers were first called to the scene of the deadly accident in response to a report that a pedestrian was hit by car.

774291_bar_1While it is still very early in their investigation, a spokesperson for the Massachusetts State Police said an older Acura was driving north on Route 24 when it crashed for a reason that is not yet know to authorities. As the car crashed, an occupant of the Acura was thrown clear of the vehicle and then was hit or run over by six cars in a row. The victim was 21 years of age at the time of this fatal traffic crash, and he was from Brockton, just south of Boston. Continue reading

According to a recent news story from the Worcester Telegram, a woman who allegedly has eight previous convictions on her criminal record was just arrested for operating a motor vehicle under the influence of intoxicating liquor or drugs (OUI).

1316049_untitledAuthorities say the 58-year-old woman called them asking that they remove a man from her apartment. This occurred just after 10 a.m. on a Sunday morning. Worcester Police officers arrived at her home and alleged they saw the man in question standing outside of her home, while the woman who called them drove away from the home with her dog in the car. Drunk driving is a very serious problem in Boston as well as the rest of the country. While drunk driving accidents results in thousands of deaths and other cases of serious each year, the real fear in potential drunk drivers seems to be of getting arrested rather than being in an deadly crash, at least according to Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

For example, we see slogans like drive drunk hammered, get nailed, or sober or slammer, or one add showing a guy blowing into a roadside breath testing instrument with a caption that says “you just blew $10,000, which obviously alludes to the cost of hiring and attorney, court costs and fines, the cost of increased insurance, and other financials costs of being arrested for drink driving.   While there are some, we very rarely see any anti-drunk driving commercials that focus on the serious physical injury and deaths often caused by drunk driving car accidents. According to a recent news article from the Boston Globe, a Brookline firefighter was arrested on charges of drunk driving and hit-and-run in connection with a serious car accident in which he allegedly crashed into to two vehicles and fled the scene. He was already arraigned in Middlesex County.

mPIXIhIAuthorities say the 34-year-old defendant was charged specifically with operating a motor vehicle under the influence of intoxicating liquor (OUI), leaving the scene of a personal injury, and he was cited for several other moving violations. In the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, it is typical to be given non-criminal moving violations in addition to any criminal charges. According to a recent article from the Boston Globe, a 29-year-old man involved in a Boston car accident was pronounced dead at a local hospital. Authorities state the victim was a passenger in a car that allegedly crashed into a utility pole in Weymouth. There were two other passengers in the car who were injured, and first responders took them to a local level-one trauma center in the greater Boston area.

754020_texture_mashupAuthorities say two cars crashed into each other on Main Street around one in the morning.   As a result of the traffic accident, one car ended up crashing into a liquor store, causing substantial damage to the car and the store.   The owner of the store estimated that between the damage to the structure, which was quite extensive, and the lost inventory, there was an estimated $25,000 to $35,000 in total damages. Authorities are also reporting that, just after crash, several people used this as an opportunity to enter the store and steal items from the shelves. Continue reading
