Nun Arrested on Suspicion of Drunk Driving

According to a recent news article from Fox News, a nun was just arrested for drunk driving, and the arrest was recorded on video, including when she took the field sobriety test wearing a religious habit.

Authorities in New Jersey have said that the alleged drunk driver was in fact a nun from Philadelphia. They said she was pulling into the parking lot of an auto parts store in reverse and crashed into the store’s front door. Luckily, the store was closed at the time, so no customers or employees were injured. Continue reading

Moped Rider Arrested for Drunk Driving Fifth Offense

When we think of drunk driving, we typically think of someone driving a car or truck while intoxicated. It is also important to understand that drunk driving doesn’t always have to involve a car. A person can be charged with drunk driving on a bicycle, pedicab, scooter, or anything else with wheels, with the one exception of a wheelchair. The reason a person cannot be charged with drunk driving in a wheelchair is because it would be discriminatory and the same as charging a person with a crime for walking while drunk.

While it may seem strange to charge someone with the crime of operating a motor vehicle under the influence of intoxicating liquor or drugs (OUI) on a non-traditional vehicle, the Massachusetts legislature made the law this way because, for example, driving a moped while drunk is dangerous and can result in a serious accident. Report: Massachusetts is Mid-Level on Drunk Driving Prevention

When it comes to preventing drunk driving through strict penalties, Massachusetts is somewhere right on the middle border.

The website Wallet Hub analyzed DUI laws in all 50 states plus the District of Columbia using a key of 15 different metrics. Using this, they then ranked each state based on how strict or lenient it was on DUI offenders.

Massachusetts ranked 23rd out of 51 for overall. In terms of criminal penalties, however, we ranked as the 9th-strictest state. However, for DUI prevention, we ranked way at the bottom at 44th.
